About the Role

The role supports the Development team, which provides transport planning, civil infrastructure and urban design for development and master‑planning projects across the North East and nationally. As Technical Director you will drive business growth, client‑facing activities, market strategy and technical leadership, while helping to diversify the team’s staff numbers and revenue. WSP assists clients in promoting, implementing and managing sustainable development, from pre‑feasibility studies through planning consent to detailed design and construction. The firm creates plans that guide accessibility, growth and long‑term sustainability for communities. • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, leveraging a network of clients, co‑professionals and colleagues to win work and increase market share for the Development team. • Liaise with the Regional Director for Development North and local office lead to set and agree appropriate growth targets and plans. • Liaise with public / private sector clients and key stakeholders, such as local planning authorities, to build trusted relationships. • Provide technical advice to clients and support them through the planning and design process. • Work closely with colleagues to ensure coordination across the Development team and share market intelligence, best practice and innovation. • Lead and support bids, including reviewing and authorising submissions, demonstrating commercial and technical added value. • Act as Project Director for major projects and strategically important commissions. • Support all aspects associated with H&S / Corporate Responsibility and ensure the team complies with SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality).
